Machine Made Rug Cleaning

Machine Made Rug Cleaning – Oriental Rugs

Oriental rugs were once known for their heavy make, meticulous crafting process, and symbolic purpose. Today, the handmade style of rug can be reproduced by manufacturing using a machine, making it easily available to modern homes. Despite being machine made, these rugs can still offer the distinct look and affinity for detail that have made oriental rugs popular and for machine made rug cleaning.

Machine made oriental rugs are often used as area rugs because of their affordability and durability. As such, it’s only natural for them to get stained or worn out with time. To preserve the form and color of your machine made rug, it’s best that you have it cleaned every 12 to 18 months. But because machine made oriental rugs vary immensely in material, construction, and quality, they can be difficult to clean. An inexperienced cleaner may use the wrong solutions when it comes to machine made rug cleaning, causing it to bleed or unravel, or simply not even get the rug clean!

Types of Machine Made Rugs

  • Tufted Rugs are generally constructed the same – face yarns secured to a primary and secondary backing with an adhesive, usually latex. Poorly sourced latex can often be the weakest link in this chain. Pettyjohn’s is able to repair and re-latex
  • Machine Woven Rugs include Face-to-Face Woven rugs, Axminster carpets, and Wilton carpets. (Did you know the Velvet loom is actually the Wilton loom without the Jacquard patterning device?!)
  • Karastan Rugs are made on an Axminster loom using the Kardax weave. Karastan rugs are manufactured right here in NC! While their facility in Eden, North Carolina is not open to the general public, our staff had the opportunity to take a tour with the Association of Rug Care Specialists back in 2013.
  • Bonded Carpets are usually made into designer area rugs, with both cut-pile and loop-pile constructions available. The face yarns of a bonded carpet are attached to the backing using an adhesive rather than through a weaving process.
